North Bund getting new riverfront green area

A riverfront green area along the North Bund opened to the public yesterday, providing one more scenic spot for locals to enjoy the waterfront view. The green space, covering 60,000 square meters, is just opposite the Lujiazui area across the Huangpu River. It surrounds lots of office buildings, including the landmark Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, popularly referred to as “a drop of water.” (Shanghai Daily)

The Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal encompasses a massive 630 thousand square foot site in the very center of the bustling metropolis of Shanghai. It exists beneath a public park that forms its roof, thus conserving precious land for green, public use. Below rests a vast, underground, three-level concourse lit by a unique, earthform bridge forming a gateway to the city. (ArchDaily)

North Bund mandates people-friendly zone

Newly erected buildings in the city’s North Bund area will be connected by pedestrian overpasses after the emerging shipping business hub drew a lesson from the pedestrian-unfriendly Lujiazui area.
The North Bund area now requires new office buildings to connect with each other at the third floor to divert pedestrians from the busy ground vehicle traffic. (Shanghai Daily)
Might make it more friendly for the buildings but might also kill the street life and character.
