Shanghai home to 90 billionaires and 370,000 millionaires

The Hurun Report’s recently released 2nd annual Shanghai Wealth Report has a few eye-popping statistics:
- Pudong is the richest postcode in Shanghai, followed by Changning District, which is also the richest postcode in Puxi.
- Shanghai today has 370,000 dollar millionaires, 140, 000 individuals with RMB 10m up 6.1% and 8,200 individuals with RMB 100m, up 5.1%.

China's urban population outnumbers rural for first time

The number of people living in China’s cities for the first time exceeded those in the country’s rural areas at the end of 2011, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Tuesday.
The number of urban dwellers increased by 21 million to hit 690.79 million at the end of 2011, accounting for 51.27 percent of the country’s total. Meanwhile, the rural population fell by 14.56 million to 656.56 million. (via Shanghai Daily)
Shanghai's economic diagnosis still healthy
According to the Shanghai Statistics Bureau, Foreign direct investment in the city advanced 4.7 percent year on year to US$1.11 billion last month, while exports jumped 29.3 percent to US$14.2 billion and imports doubled to US$15.9 percent, creating a trade deficit for a second consecutive month. Gross domestic product soared 15 percent on an annual basis to 381 billion yuan in the first quarter, the biggest rise since 1993. Manufacturing output advanced 26.2 percent from a year earlier to 239.5 billion yuan in April. (Shanghai Daily)

Shanghainese are living longer, with an average life span of 81.73 years in 2009, creating a new record after 2008’s 81.28, said Shanghai Health Bureau today.
The maternal mortality rate last year was 9.61 in every 100,000, close to the average in developed countries for the first time. The death rate of infants was 6.58 in every 1,000.

Shanghai posts 8.2% growth in GDP
According to the Shanghai Statistic Bureau, the gross domestic product in Shanghai last year jumped to 1.49 trillion yuan (US$218 billion), with annualized rates in the four quarters settling at 3.1 percent, 7.9 percent, 9.8 percent and 11.2 percent, respectively. (Shanghai Daily)
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2009 property sales surged 75 percent to 4.4 trillion yuan (US$644 billion) in China. Sales of residential developments soared 80 percent from a year earlier, followed by offices which rose 67 percent and retail properties at 45 percent.
